Key Considerations
Motor vehicle insurance premiums and insurance terms are affected by a number of factors including:
- Type of vehicle and value
- Age, sex, and experience of the principal driver
- Area/location where the vehicle is principally driven
- Prior claims/loss experience
- Whether driver restrictions apply (i.e. excluding under 25 year olds)
- Whether the drivers have had prior driving offences
It is important that all material facts are provided to the insurer to determine the premium and terms to apply to your cover. If you fail to fully disclose material facts, or misrepresent the risk, (for example, misrepresenting who will be the principal driver), then the insurer may be entitled to avoid paying a claim.
It is also important that you ensure that your intended use of the vehicle falls within the coverage provided by the private motor insurance policy.
